Seems like the left is slightly rich and the right is too lean. No greys, please! It'll run too hot.
First, get to motor up to temp and then clean the plugs.
Then, idle the motor at about 1500 rpm, tweaking the idle screws to attain that high idle, for about 6 or 7 minutes; pull the plugs and check the colour. If they're sandy then the idle jet settings (air screws) are fine.
Check the clip positions on the throttle slides' jet needles -- if the leanness is during throttle openings of greater than quarter-gas then the right needle should be lifted a notch (clip lowered one increment) and road tested. Again, clean the plugs before riding and pull them after a 15-20 minute ride. Don't allow the bike to idle after the ride; give it some beans with wide throttle openings, stop after a spell, let it cool for a bit then pull the plugs to check the colour.
Possibly a dumb question, but did you use The EMO Recipe to time it & initially balance the carbs?

eyhonda wrote:I got a new carb cap (thanks LM!) to solve my air leak on the right. So I went for a test ride yesterday and i'm getting popping thru carbs on acceleration. I'm running aftermarket air pods, mufflers (baffles but no packing), 140 main and #3 needle. Any ideas? At first I thought the popping was a lean/air leak condition. It starts and idles fine. It acclerates fine up to 4-5k in 4th gear until the popping starts. Plugs are light black on left and light grey on the right. The right side had the stripped carb cap.

LM: sorry about the confusion. I was just referring to the clip position. It's in the middle. I am an engineer; so I always talk technically.

e3steve- thanks, I'll try all that. That's a good idea about checking idle air-fuel ratio.

But what is the popping from? Is it missing (due to ignition or lack of fuel) or is it backfiring due to too much fuel?
