We live and we learn! Good on ya for admitting that one in public! When I bought my first CB77 some years back, it took me a lot of fiddling and test riding to get her running right. About the time I had it running really well, it siezed up. I had never checked the oil level, and it was empty. I was so excited to get it running and dialed in, it just never occured to me that the PO might have drained the oil and not refilled it, yep, never again!

Funny ya would mention the No Oil.
Sunday I had a local feller and lady friend bring a 66 CB77 over for carb rebuild, find and fix and install Probe Ign.
Well he checked the oil lever which was VERY LOW.
Like a DOT on the very end of the stick.
We drained the engine and what I smelled and saw was black but thin as gas.
Which I'm sure it was.
Cleaned the filter added 30W Non Det. NAPA oil and when the time came we fired it up and varooooommmmm!. .............lm

I had a friend bring a Trail 70 by that he pick up at a swap meet for $100. I had it running in 5 minutes, and no smoke. We than checked the oil, sure enough empty. When we added just under a quart of oil, it looked like a crop duster! Sounds like your local feller is a lucky man!
