Need to replace housing around ignition switch

I'd like to replace the corroded housing around the ignition switch on my '64 CB77*. Can this be replaced separately from the key core part , or is it better to just replace the whole thing? If it can be replaced, do I need a special tool?

That's the threaded retaining ring. I used a pair of long, snipe-nosed pliers to engage in the recesses and unscrew it.

Take a look on eBay for a replacement keyswitch, then just use the ring; it's the same type, but with differing switching configurations, as C, CA, CL, along with C92 & C95 and 1960s' CB250, 350, 450.

EDIT: there's an abundance of copies on eBay. One is item 272234091978. I bought one for my CB250K, and used the ring for the same reasons as you...

Thanks! If I understand correctly, even though the later model switches are different (like the item you mentioned), the threaded retaining ring should be the same.

For removing and installing, you might want to consider obtaining an adjustable hook spanner. It's good for the lock retaining ring, along with the camshaft drive sprocket nut and the left-side crankshaft nut. Williams offers a good product, I believe the 3/4 - 2" version will take care of these instances. Regards, Chase

That's very helpful. Thanks! Williams looks nice, but I'm gonna try a cheaper version I found on Amazon for <$20.

channel lock pliers to remove the old bad. channel lock pliers plus a rag to install the new. It doesn't need to be all that tight.
