Hi to all on here...


My name is Dan Alexander and I own a mildly modded '72 Honda CB350K. Though I don't own a 305 I will be starting a project on a '63 CB77 on behalf of my brother. It's in very nice condition but just doesn't want to run properly and though I've ridden his CB77 but never worked on it I'm hoping my experience in rebuilding and fully sorting my 350K will help.

Hi Dan

Welcome to te Forum. Plenty of good stuff on here that you should be able to find via the search facility or putting your search into google and adding Honda305 you will find pages here.

Most of the problems you have or create will have been dealt with here at sometime.

How about making a restoration thread and putting it in the restoration section here?

If you want to add photos it is best to host them on something like Flickr and then link to them.

Thanks G-Man.....my brother has restored the bike (quite nicely) and my task is now to get it running properly. It does run but not particularly well. Experience with my old 350K has taught me that however much you do, there's always something else crops up with these old bikes.
I think it tends to weed out the people who fancy looking cool riding around on a vintage cycle but don't allow for the total involvement that's needed when it comes to maintenance.
With my old 350K (which is a lovely old thing) though I've only ridden it 100 miles since finishing it (are they ever 'finished'?) I've done so much to it I feel like I know it like I've owned it for years.

CB77 problems

Dan,

You're right about people restoring old bikes but never sorting out the small problems that stop them becoming good reliable bikes.

Spend some time on the list looking at old posts, particularly ED Moore's tune up procedure and start from there. In my experience you need to check with a strobe light to make sure the advance retard unit is working well (EMO might disagree with that) and then make sure the carbs are REALLY clean and well set up, especially float heights nd carry on from there.

When you have it sorted you will be rewarded with a great bike, I ride both a CL77 and a CB77 both of which cover several thousand miles each year with no problem. It took a while to get the CL fully sorted but well worth the effort.

Check the back postings and ask questions, I'll guarantee you don't have any problems that no-one has seen before and fixed.

There is a place called Bell End somewhere below Wolverhampton but I don't live there lol. Incredibly it's not that far from a place called Lickey End.....I kid you not lol!

Anyway, I'm going to surf the various tech posts on here and try to absorb knowledge on the CB77 to ready myself for when my brothers 305 arrives at my house ready for me to 'do a Dr Frankenstein' and breathe new life into it. Cheers DJM
