brass bushing lert or right

Hi, I have a 1969 cb77 and I tore my transmission down to inspect and mic out all the parts my countershaft brass bushing got knocked off the table and I don't know which way it goes in. does the side with the hole in it go into low gear or the countershaft gear? Please help me of you can, it would be very much appreciated.

There is an internal chamfer at one end of the bush. That goes towards the kickstart (low gear) end of the shaft.

Morning G Man, I thank you for your answer in response to direction of that fitting. I assumed that was the way it went so it would pull oil into the shaft with its spiral groove on the inside but I've learned through the years to never ass-u-me anything, better safe than sorry. No problem

I can never remeber which way the hole - groove goes but the chamfer is there to clear the radius at the end of the shaft where it meets the kickstart arm.

I put address up, Thanks While I'm here what's the deal on the bush spindle every one I've seen has been chipped out on the top side I guess from the kicker pawl they're obsolete found one in California $49 +s&h I'm gonna take mine to a machine shop see if they can reweld it. Do ya thing I could have them weld it higher so the kicker pawl can't flip out to the side or is that not a good idea?

Hi Tony and G, I have had a couple of those "hat section" end bushings built up OK. Some of them will not take a weld for some reason. I thought that the next time I might silver solder the worn area. I don't know about making the outside diameter bigger, but it might be an idea. The pawl and gear needs to be inspected as the gear can wear on the inside. I have made new pawls from an old open ended spanner. Good material!
In regard to the 14mm bushing, l had some made with a higher flange in the centre. It spreads the area of contact with the gears, and I think will wear less. I don't know if it's worth it though as these things aren't going to do a gazillion miles.
