Thailand Mufflers Arrived Today

Post by Cheburashka » Fri Apr 15, 2011 5:45 pm

I got a pair of the mufflers from Thailand delivered to my house today. $110 shipped, which isn't bad. They look pretty good. Big ugly welded seam, but it's on the bottom edge where it can't be seen. Good fit over the j-pipes and the hangers lined up well. I sealed them with copper-filled silicone, so we'll see how long that lasts. They're nice and quiet. Much better than the rusty ones I pulled off. If you're looking for cheap and sort-of OEM looking, they're a good deal. I'll let you know how long they last.

Some of the Thai stuff is of a reasonable quality for the price; you sometimes just need to make it better, here & there, but the basics are OK. Works for a rider and fits the pocket.

Their NOS can be a piss-take; a bit spendy, and I refuse to give them the sale unless it's been something I really need.

Good find for you, it seems. And at least Apex didn't make any money out of you!

Keep us informed as to how they fare on your bike.

I'm trying their NOS stuff out too

I ordered a RH switch with directional signal from one of the sellers in Thailand. They have the proper switch for a CA77, but they want $250 for it. I went with one from a CA50 for $30 shipped which I'm pretty sure I can modify to work with my signals. I'll report back on this when it arrives.

Re: 305 Dream Exhaust Header install

Post by Gene1000 » Thu Apr 09, 2026 9:20 pm

Hello all,
I am trying to figure out how to reinstall the exhaust headers on my 1965 Honda CA77 Dream 305. This may sound simple, but nothing I try does not seem to
work properly. One header won’t insert and the flanges won’t stay on.
Is there a video available somewhere that shows exactly how to do this? I removed the headers years ago while restoring the bike. I’m not sure I even have all of the parts. Can’t find the gaskets.
Anyone know of an instruction video or a detail explanation of how to install the headers.
Thanks.

Here’s a photo of the parts I referenced. Nothing seems to fit and I’m not even certain in what order and which direction the flanges go. They also won’t fit inside the collar. Can someone tell me SPECIFICALLY how these are arranged and how to fit them into the exhaust port
Thanks!

G'day Gene1000

I hope this helps.

The gasket (Ref. No. 4) fits into the exhaust port on the head.

The joint (Ref. No. 3) [strange name] slides over the outlet end of the exhaust header as shown.

The 2 collars (Ref. No. 5) slip around the exhaust header.

Fit a new gasket into the exhaust port of the head. Insert the header into the exhaust pipe. Slip the split collars around the header at the exhaust port of the head. The larger stepped flanges on the collars go inwards to support the flange on the exhaust header. Slide the joint around the header, up to the collars, pushing the collars into the exhaust port of the head, resulting in the header being retained in the exhaust port. Ensure the bolt holes in the joint slide over exhaust port studs. Secure everything in place with the nuts - I use stainless steel nuts and flat washers - lubricated well with copper-cote or similar.

I seem to recall that one exhaust header is slightly longer than the other, but can't recall which side this goes on. Some research on this forum or the web may reveal the answer.

Good luck.
