Clockwise, or counterclockwise??

Pulling the clutch out of a unit... the crankshaft nut is badly hacked up, and doesn't want to move. I can't tell if it unscrews clockwise or counterclockwise?

Can anyone enliighten me?

I had to beat the living daylights out of mine with a hammer and chisel. It was on there pretty dang tight.
