After a couple of months overhauling a 1983 VT750C I finally got back on the Dream. Spring is coming (eventually) and it is time to get this thing painted so my beautiful, running classic is being reduced to parts.....

Got everything stripped off now and she looks pretty sad!
And a pile of parts to be stripped.
From here on she should start looking better! :)

Are you going to repaint in red or go with a different colour?

Nope, it is going to be deep metallic purple with lace trim - a real 1960's hot rod paint job!

Started stripping paint today with chemical stripper, putty knife, wire brush, and stainless steel wool. Sure is SLOW! (Wish I could afford a sand blaster!) More to go to finish up the frame.

Stripping the original paint was SUCH A JOB I was thinking about moving to media blasting but found that "aircraft paint stripper" works WAY better than the lumber yard stripper! So it is onward and upward!

I use a gas torch and wire brush when I do stuff myself. Don't use with paint stripper though, as it releases some nasty fumes....
Sodium Hydroxide mixed with wallpaper paste also works pretty well.
