Pawl, pawl spring, pin, and six pieces of aluminum recovered from the crankcase.

The PAWL is shot and the spring and tip look OK.
The shaft end needs to be replaced and so does the bolt.
Take a good look at the 14mm brass bushing and send a pic of it also.
I'd almost bet the aluminum is from previous piston breaks. ................lm

Previous piston, not current? Now Maybe I think I should pull the head to check the condition of the pistons.
Are you referring to the bushing in the right side cover for the kickstarter spindle?

Count the teeth on the gears, and compare them to parts diagram. This way you can tell if the gears are X'ed or not.
