Well, the speedo is done, but I'm less than thrilled with the trim ring. It's got a few small dings in it. I've got another, which may be a little better. I'm not trying for a 90 point restoration, I'm not capable of that kind of work, but I do want it to look new/nice/used but well taken care of/correct. Maybe I should just leave well enough alone!

I tried out the Dupli-color primer/paint combo on the engine valley cover. The primer and paint go on nicely, but my prep work was not up to par. I've got to sand it down and do it again. Learning!

I've still got my eyes open for a decent header pipe (just one) and a right side muffler. Neither has to be perfect, but trashed won't do, either. They'll come along, I'm sure.

I'm getting ready to make some press tools using low-temperature alloy. The principle is this. Melt the alloy and pour it into a 'good' trim ring (or part). Make a mould so that I can take an impression of the outer part.

I will then use these tow pieces to press distorted trim back into shape using a vise or press.

I'll post pics here when I have stopped travelling.....

I found these on eBay today. I could not believe my luck! They appear to be in very good condition, judging from the photos (and there were many). I could NOT afford them, but I had to, so I bought them.

I'm confident they'll clean up very nicely, and they're a good match for the rest of the bike. I have baffles from my original mufflers. I can now throw out the original (really) bad right side muffler, but I might keep the left one as a spare.

Here's the "test shot" I did on the engine valley cover with the Dupli-Color rattle can paint. I'm impressed with that paint! It goes on very well, like an airbrush, and it looks great. I have to redo the valley cover, both sides need prep and paint, not just the top - so I will. But, that's okay, I planned to do that if the test painting had gone well.

I've been doing a lot of research on the exhaust system on the CB72/CB77. To keep it short, I wanted to find out if the CA72/77 headers would fit - if they had the same bend, if they were long enough, etc. I PM'ed LM and he said he thought they would fit. I tried finding part numbers to cross reference and discovered along the way how CONFUSING the different parts lists are! Anyway - I found a nice looking CA77 header, it was cheap enough, so I bought it to give it a try. You know I'll report back!
