Few (probably none) plating shops will be able to take dents out of header pipes. Working dings and such out of sheet metal is viable for them, but not something as thick-walled and tough as steel tubing. It also depends on where the dents are. If you have any local race car chassis shops around, you might want to show them what you need to do. if the dents are minor, perhaps adding some weld to that area, and grinding it back to shape might be practical. Pictures would help. Regards, Chase

Header Pipe Dents and Swingarm Question

Here are some pictures of the dents in the pipes. I am wondering if it might make sense to find some dent free ones. I haven't looked yet but probably after 50 years, there aren't any. Below these pictures I have a swingarm question.

My replacement swingarm has enough clearance that everything fits as it should. The original bushes on this arm are in nice shape so I am going to leave them in place.
Here is my swingarm Question
They are different. Is my replacement an earlier design? My bike is a 67.

The swing arm on the left is an earlier one with a forged lug brazed on. The one on the right has simpler welded construction.

The pipes are double-skinned so pretty hard to straighten out. Modern replacements are single wall.

To tell the truth I had not taken the time to check that it had the correct front bracket until now. It does. Here are some pictures of the seat and supplier information. One thing, it was shipped here about ten years ago so I don't know if they are making them exactly like this anymore.

Thanks Steverino.
I might just gamble on Thailand.
I patched up mine and recovered it. It looks OK, but is awful to sit on. That can happen when you try to do something you don't know how to do. Oh well.

Repro Header Pipe and Sandblast Water Trap Questions

I haven't got much done lately. I've been busy setting up a sandblast outfit. I've got the cabinet assembled, except for the lighting and dust control, and I bought a compressor that I hope is big enough to feed it. It is a two stage with cast iron pump it's supposed to deliver a little over 15 cfm at 100 psi so we'll see...
I have experienced water problems with my little craftsman compressor so I am interested in the type of water trap setups you use.

Here is my header pipe question.
I test fitted my David Silver Header Pipes without any gaskets in the exhaust ports. Without the gaskets I don't know how valid my test fit is. The ends of the didn't hang low but rather, they are quite tight to the motor. And, just how much wiggle room is available when I install the exhaust gasket, or if a little more room is needed, two?
