In the mean time, look what someone did to this 450! It is sitting in a reception area of a business on an airport as a display. I was told it runs and rides. Cute!

A pair of broad 60mm hose clamps, well lubed, would do it.sarals wrote:Today I have the time to do it and the weather is warmer and dry (the garage is NOT cold!) so I plan to install the pistons and the barrel. The pistons are of no concern. However, the barrel could be. I'm going to put it on by myself. With no ring compressor (a hose clamp, maybe). Wish me luck (oh, I don't want to break a ring)!
Thank you, Steve. Luckily (or not) I haven't gotten to the task, yet. Somehow things just keep cropping up.... ;)e3steve wrote:A pair of broad 60mm hose clamps, well lubed, would do it.sarals wrote:Today I have the time to do it and the weather is warmer and dry (the garage is NOT cold!) so I plan to install the pistons and the barrel. Alternatively, you could scissor-cut some small food tins and secure them around the top of the pistons with two or three zip-ties.
Okay, gotcha - thank you for that!e3steve wrote:I should mention, Sara: avoid the 'Jubilee'-type worm-drive hose clips; they will score the pistons. Use the clamp type, with the screw & nut through the folded-back tabs (much like the clamp on your starter motor, covering the brushes' access apertures).
