Here are 2 1962 speedo assys. The one on the left is from 1962 frame 21905. The one on the right is from frame 24182, which is the one I am currently restoring. What difference do you note? The earlier one doesn't have NIPPON SEIKI on the bottom. Now, look at the bottom. What surprised me is it is the 1st issue or at least 1st issue case as it has the clip for the spring holder seen on the earliest bikes. The other thing I thought was neat was the splice on the green dash light wires is taped, not plastic sleeved like on later issue units.

To verify that the taped splice was not a POs doing, as I had fist thought, I compared it to NOS units, one in KPH, the other in MPH, and the splice is the same.

Mine is, too. My NOS cluster, bought on eBay a couple of years back, is a Type-1d (OE '64); it came with the illumination wires solder-spliced then green taped.

Almost have everything off the frame, just need to remove wire harness and engine. I noticed on my upper shock mount studs there are holes drilled for a cotter or clip. I have not noticed that on later bikes. I only see one part number for the blind nut, no revisions.

very interesting, I have the same on my frame as well, always thought it a good idea to have secured shock nuts-- one less thing to be concerned coming loose. Additionally my brake plates have the same treatment on all of the brake cams, both front and rear. Allan

?? no numbers!! Bike was built up for road racing in 62/63. I acquired it in 1970 when I worked at the same shop that originally built it. I thought that perhaps the mounts were drilled at the time of race set-up for maintenance purposes. Did your bike have capped nuts or were they castellated with cotter pins? Perhaps early frames were drilled. Allan
