Apologies for any typos. I was bouncing along on the train from NYC to Albany.
The technique with those combined regulator - rectifiers is to connect all of the outputs from the generator together and feed them to the device. The new rectifier should be a little more efficient than the old selenium rectifier and you should get better battery charging under all circumstances.
The original Honda method uses the light switch to connect up more output from the generator when you switch the lights on and less when the lights are off. This is a relatively crude way of balancing demand with alternator output but was used on British lightweight bikes for many years.
The little aluminum HT nuts are a problem and you may be able to get away with just using some self adhesive heat shrink to hold the HT wires on to the coils. Not a great solution but could work OK. I have not really looked closely at mine so I don't know if there is a problem to solve....

It sounds like a modern regulator rectifier, in as much as I'd like to keep the bike original (I'm winking about the electronic ignition I already have for it) is a must. I'll work towards that. I did see the thread over in "CB77" about it.

Those HT lead nuts? Mine are full of corrosion holes, but they may still work. Perhaps I'll screw them on and put heat shrink over them? Also, those lead nuts may be why some folks replace their coils with modern examples. Thinking out loud again!
