I use Ted's 1961 CB72 as my reference. The rest of the site is pretty special, too.
The 1962 CB77 that Alan got from the USA has an aluminum fender but later '61 bikes didn't, I believe. So was it Honda using up parts or was there a defined changeover?
If you don't have a magnet handy it's difficult to tell so I am inclined to give up the search for an aluminum one.....

Graham, the mudguard you have, as we now know came from a 1961 bike, so it would be spot on, i think that was a bit of fate playing its part..alan

Yes, spot-on. Very glad you let me have it! It was going on a 1965 CB77 but it won't now.... :-)

it's all about the numbers. The first 1500 or so used SLS front brake with a DLS rear. It sounds stupid, doesn't it? Ted's bike must be later than that. Mine is 969 so it has to have one. I have a correct DLS, just in case..... :-)

To prove that this forum can have powerful effects, I just picked up a beautiful 10mm plug head from AlanW. It really is in lovely condition but has been modified for a 350 kit and big ports. Nicely done but not the standard 250 condition I would have liked.
So I have a dilemma - keep looking for a good standard 10mm plug part or put back the 'period' modification that I found and build this as a 350 with big carbs? Those pistons have been in there from 1973, at least, so maybe they ought to stay?
Anyway - thanks AlanW!
