That's an original wheel. I'll order a bearing for the primary roller version and try and get one built up at the weekend.

G-Man wrote:Well it's taken about ½ hr more in the workshop to do the mods to the bolt, open up a round hole in the tensioner arm and fit a new needle-roller bearing to the wheel.
I need to clean everything up properly and remove some burrs here and there but I'm quite pleased with this. For once there were no horrible snags and the wheel spins nicely on its new roller bearing.
I haven't checked the fit in the cam tunnel yet but my bolt head is thinner than the little scoop at the other end of the pin so it should be OK. Ive used a grade 8 bolt so I think that this should be stronger than the original riveted part too. I just have to decide whether to use loctite on the bolt or find a way to stake it in place.

I hope it works as there are a lot more good wheels for the primary tensioner than the cam tensioner. ..................lm

Hi Graham,
If you don't mind me asking, who is your bearing supplier? I have followed your instructions on this refurb and it all works fine but am having trouble finding a caged roller to suit.
Cheers Al.

I just go to SimplyBearings.co.uk
Look for drawn cup needle roller bearings. These are imperial sized bearings.

Alan Curtis sent me one of these elusive early air tube clips so that I can try and copy it and get us a full set for the two bikes.
This is the first one I've had in my hands as my bike didn't even have the air tubes when I got it.
It seems a little slack on this air tube so I might try and make mine a little tighter. I'm not quite sure how long these lasted for but as a complete coincidence I picked up a set of not-so-early tubes with the flat clips still attached.

These came somewhere between that first clip and the later coiled spring type.
Pretty sure my bike needs the earliest type but you never know. The flat clip ones can go into the box for my '62 project.... :-)

According to the CMS online parts manual there were three versions:
17255-268-000 CB72 - 10001 to 11548 - spring clip?
17255-259-000 CB72 - 11549 to 22097 - flat clip from C72?
17255-268-010 CB72 - 22098 - - coiled wire spring
That seems to make sense......
This is the early type .....
This is the flat clip from the Dream
And the last number is the one we all know and love......
I have frame number CB72- 21329 so those tubes with the flat clips have found a home.......
