305 just refers to the engine size, 305cc. there were a family of bikes honda made in the 60's all 305's but different models. the CL ("scrambler" with high pipes), the CB ("superhawk", low pipes street 'racer') and the CA which was the Dream, the 'cruiser' variant of the family. the numbers following the letters indicate engine size. if it's a CA72, CB72, or CL72 i believe the engine is 250cc... i could be wrong on that, I don't have one myself, and haven't read into it much. the CA77, CB77, and CL77 were the 305cc's. So if your engine number is CA77E XXXXXXX then it's a 305. as for your frame, we'll need to see that number as well, to see if your engine and frame are a match. the engines in these bikes were very similar and occasionally swapped out between frames as I understand it.

as for links, I'd recommend grabbing some of the literature off this site concerning the engines, not sure if they have CA material or not, but you can check that. I used the books i ordered off of here for the CB77 constantly during my restore, and will likely use them for years and years to come.

ebay is a great resource on these bikes.

once you get some research done yourself, you'll start to pick up on whats best and what's affordable and where to get either.
I'd recommend reading the living hell out of the CA77 forum on this site.

I ditto Gun's remarks to the umteenth degree that anyone new to this forum must read, read, and then read some more. If you think it is a dumb question, it's been ask before and it's somewhere on this forum, just type it into the search engine under the topic you think fits best.
