CB gearset in CA

Post by Nick » Sat Apr 04, 2026 9:33 pm

Finally got my Dream on the road and really like it with the CB gearing. The Dream's 1st gear always bothered me as it was practically useless - just a get-moving gear. Also mine was occasionally popping out of gear, so when I took apart my spare CB engine and saw the nice back-cut gears and taller ratios I thought I'd give it try. One or two teeth more on the rear might be slightly better, but happy for now. Will have to go for a blast on the highway to know for sure. Removing the baffles also resulted in a noticeable power increase.
Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always had.

Nice work. I think most people find the Dream gearing a bit to be desired in these modern time, however, at the time of design and build, they must have seemed to be pretty adequate. First and fourth seem too low - pleased you found a happy medium.
Thanks.
