whats that knob looking thing above the gas tank and behind the handle bars called?

not sure whats it called, but the knob-looking cover? infront of the gas tank but behind the handlebars. for 62 dream250. anyone can help me id and locate this part? cheers

i was wondering, how hard is it to do a front end conversion from cb72 onto a ca72? has anyone done this? parts needed? cheers!
