The three Dreams I restored had no primer underneath the paint.
I would advise against Rustoleum black. It leaves a gray tinge. Try Duplicolor black, does a much nicer job.

Your carb slide could be 180 deg. out. Had the same thing happen on my Dream.

Drill holes in the tops of your pistons and take them apart. They are probably junk now anyway.
