Mine does that sometimes. Not bad enough to warrant pulling it apart yet. It is a very high mileage bike (70,000) so I suppose wear is playing a part. I'm keen to see if anyone has a definitive answer so I can be confident in finding the problem.

I have been away from this forum for a few years and on revisiting I found your thread. I have read every post and am just amazed at your dedication and detail. It makes my restoration efforts seem like those of a cave man. I await further installments with anticipation.

I have actually made CB250 pistons fit in the 1980's when I first got the bike. I bought the bike and someone had tried fitting the pistons and gave up. I did machine the sides of the piston crown on a lathe untill the crank could turn without the head gasket in place. I didn't take anything off the...

I have assembled the bike and taken it for a ride. It seems OK, although I didn't push it. Because the barrels had been machined so the pistons stood proud of the deck, I machined the proud areas of the piston head down, which gave me about 8.5:1 compression. The wife and 4 kids gives me little time...

The numbers are a bit mangled, but the frame number looks like 100020, and the engine number is 100023 (from memory, the bike is at home). I do remember reading somewhere that some '64 models started with 1 before they went to the longer numbers which all started with 1, so it probably is a '64. A f...

Hi Jensen, I am from Ryde, in Sydney, Australia. The numbers show my bike as a 1961 model, but there are a few things that are not right, such as the speedo has 2 screws holding it in instead of the clip the 61 models are supposed to have. It was given to me in 1985 in very bad condition, so it's hi...

Check that the top of the barrels is flat (as well as the head). Most people pay attention to head flatness, but forget about the barrels. Mine were not flat and I had to get them faced to finally stop cylinder head oil leaks.
