Hi Jim, I'm wondering if my bike is having the same issue that your bike had. I also have a '66 305. I have been thinking that my bike might be having and issue with the external (for a lack of a better word) parts of the gear shift mechanism, but after reading your post I am thinking it could be an...

Gear Shift Mechanism Problems???

I am not a mechanic, so I will describe what has happened / is happening to my bike as best I can: My 1966 CB77 (5500 miles) was having issues changing gears. Basically, when I shifted into 2nd, and sometimes even 3rd, my bike would shift into neutral on its own. I thought this was happening because...

Turns out that nothing was damaged. The spring hadn't been wound properly to create the necessary tension to keep the kickstart from moving forward on its own. It is all fixed. No noise, no movement, and it works perfectly. Thanks.

I never said I wouldn't take anyone's advice. I was simply stating what I did to "solve" the problem.

About how difficult would it be for me to fix this problem myself if I can find the parts and with only a little bit of experience?

I still ride the bike. I simply tied the kickstart back so that it doesn't move forward. I never need the kickstart to get the bike going.

New To Site

Hi all, I bought a 1966 Honda CB77 about a month ago and just registered on the site. I'm looking forward to any help you all can provide. I'm also looking for some parts. I want (1) a longer gearshift rod to move my foot controls back to the middle spot on the frame and (2) original or original loo...
