snake - i dont think i know anyone with access to BG products. but i work in a GM dealer and we have some pretty stout top end cleaner that we use. I'll try a little of that. dont know why i didn't think of using that before. thanks for the idea

conbs - thanks for the advice. i agreee whole heartedly about not tearing it all apart at one time. i am notorious for not finishing projects any where near as quickly as intended... if at all. thanks for the help. the engine most definetely says "CL" so i guess at least the crankcase has been replaced. as far as the paint goes i think i'll probably end up painting it a different color... not a big fan. pretty much the entire thing is covered in surface rust so it will need to be painted a...
