Re: Bill's CB77 Retirement Project

I'm starting to run out of parts to put back on the CB77 but there is still lots of work to do. I quickly discovered the starter clutch was toast. I am awaiting an Ebay replacement and I hope it will be in good shape. Carbs cleaned, new kits, and reinstalled. All cables hooked up and the throttle is...

Re: Chain Dragging Sound Behind Rotor

Well, I pulled the rotor. Required a little nudge with an impact wrench but it slid right off. It looks nasty. I didn't see anything that looked like springs or caps as provided in the rebuild kits. This unit spinning would have emitted a terrible racket so I think I have found at least part of the ...

Chain Dragging Sound Behind Rotor

Got everything put back together enough to see if I could get a bang out of the engine. Poured a little gas in it, turned the key on and hit the starter button. The starter turned over but there was a terrible chain dragging sound coming from behind the rotor. The rotor seemed to halt and then start...

Re: Bill's CB77 Retirement Project

I've been agonizing over knock pins. Did I put them in or didn't I. I heard from several knowlegable members and I was convinced that I had probably messed up. I did. I finally decided I had to find out so I pulled the engine and opened it up. Sure enough, I didn't put the knock pins in between the ...

Re: Locating pins

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this, I finally decided I had to find out and I pulled the engine and opened it up. Sure enough, I didn't put the knock pins in between the jugs and the cylinder head. Front middle section of the head gasket was oil soaked. Why do you think? I know I put the hea...

Re: Locating pins under top cylinder cover

Here's the best pic I can find showing what might be this part and it's location. This is a picture I found on the internet. This does not appear to be the same location as the knock pin and the bolt looks like the one that comes up by the spark plug hole. Does this look familiar?

Locating pins

I finally got hold of my machinist and although he said he can't recall the specific work on my engine he was sure that the items in the attached picture were locating pins and that I should open the engine up and put them in. He said they are usually under the top cover. I need some help from someo...
