Way to go, Dan, you fixed it! By the way, I do not doubt that the special motorcycle oil is better. It just didn’t help my clutch. Well done on staying after it.

Here’s my experience for what it’s worth. I have had 2 cb77s, one from 1967 to 1970 and one from 1980 to now. Both clutches would slip a bit at full throttle. This would be worst after long term storage, made better by riding it I imagined I was burning off a glaze. All this is using automobile oil....

OK, I took a better look. see IMG_2501. I reversed the circlip holding the clutch onto the transmission mainshaft, in case it was "dished" causing axial play. There was still some play. I also adjusted the cam chain tensioner. The rattle is now diminished, but I believe it may have to do with tighte...

The primary chain was loose, as usual, but the tensioner could make it tight, and it has not rubbed on the sidecover. Nothing wrong with the centrifugal oil fi...

By the way, I want to second the "check the screws are tight" advice. These are the 3 allen screws. Mine came loose after a few thousand miles. They make a hell of a noise when they grind against the engine case!

You might even use loctite, as I did the second time.

Enjoy,
Larry

Thank you for bringing up the lead/no lead effect on plug color. I had no idea. Rats! Now I need to recalibrate my eyes.
