Smoke coming from the alternator cover. Inside one coil is black and very hot, even with key off. Buy a replacement stator and regulator or is this a symptom of something else?A ny advice on where to start troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I cut the feeler gauge down to about 3/8" wide and 1" long and then soldered it to a small piece of brass rod in order to get it in between the valve and the rocker. Tight ya know!
