CA77 Stator coil burning

Smoke coming from the alternator cover. Inside one coil is black and very hot, even with key off. Buy a replacement stator and regulator or is this a symptom of something else?A ny advice on where to start troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

CA77 PW22 tuning help requested

Starts with a 2 second push of the starter button. Pulls hard until about 1/2 to 2/3 throttle, then breaks up. Power loss, burble, burble. Worse with needle clip in position 1 or 2 but still problematic in position 4. Plugs black in all clip positions. 750' altitude. 210 lb rider. Fresh 91 octane ga...

Valve adjustment

I cut the feeler gauge down to about 3/8" wide and 1" long and then soldered it to a small piece of brass rod in order to get it in between the valve and the rocker. Tight ya know! After tightening it...
