Idle troubleshooting checklist? (Back after a long break)

Hey all! I am back after almost five years!, as I pulled the Superhawk out of storage during the lockdown, and have been bringing her back to life. Unfortunately, all same gremlins have awoke from hibernation. I am having the same old, left side doesn't fire at idle, but runs fine above 2k problem. ...

Thanks. The bike has been sitting without a rider for too many months due to work and other concerns. I think I need to sell her to someone who will keep her up and ride her. She doesn't look this good anymore and needs a clean and polish. Your post inspires me to stop neglecting her!

I am running the amals, but have never gotten them quite right. They don't like to idle and they tend to run weak and hesitate.

I have the PE22 on my 160 and it did a world of good, but I presume they are too small for my 305. I know I will have to rig up some kind of intake. And yes, I should ...

Bike is all finished.

Had horrible time with carbs, as has been the case since I got the bike.

Bolted on PE22 carbs this weekend, and zoom! Idles and runs great.

Wondering if PE22 would be a possible option on my 305, which also has very cranky carbs.

Here it is running https://flic.kr/p/nrLnZm

Update: I found a layer of steel wool shavings stuck to the bottom of the oil pump, coating the screen. It peeled off like dust on a dryer vent. Before I knew better, I used steel wool to clean the engine cases when they were apart. I learned this was a really bad idea half way through, and thought ...

Yes, we spoke by phone a bit ago.
My first two stops are confirming the pump and those two passages under the base gasket.
