I am getting annoyed with this so am seeking advice.
When I restored my CB72 the petrol cap leaked if you filled the tank within 1" of the top; not just a
dribble but a proper "slop" down the side.
Since then I have tried bending bits of the cap, tweaking the lip of the opening in the tank and of
course replaced the cork washer ( and tried soaking it first so it swells up ) - all to no effect.
This is just a nuisance on short runs but will be a real pain if I go to France during the summer
and need to fill it up.Its also an MOT ( Ministry of Transport ) test fail so I always take it to be
tested with a near empty tank.
My thoughts are that maybe the top of the tank was bashed at some point and the opening is
lower than it should be - hence the cork washer doesn't seal against anything; but I don't have another tank to measure it against.
Any ideas, comments or measurements ( height of lip of opening above tank ? ) would be
most welcome,
thanks

Leaking Petrol CapPetrol capCould be the "LIP" has a ding or low spot that is not letting the gasket seal properly.
When prepping my tank, I used a straight edge and a file backed piece of sandpaper to "level" out the filler lip. If I showed a low spot, I bumped the inside surface to bring it back to height. So far, so good. I also am using a rubber gasket, not the cork. Gary '65 CL77 Owner
