Replacement Carb for CA77?

Post by slopokecr » Wed Mar 11, 2009 4:01 pm

Im frustrated with my carb. I execute the advice given on this forum with poor results. I am getting good ignition and am thinking its gotta be the carb. (Rich condition fouling Plugs at idle speed) Ive tried coutless settings and combinations. I get conflicting information on leaning out my carb and have tried all the suggestions. Anyway, Im thinking (in addition to me being slo) there is something wrong with my carb (slide has some knicks in it, but I would think that would make it more lean) and am considering just buying a new one. Does anybody have a good source for a replacement carb? I see the one on Ebay for $119, has anyone had luck with that one, and is the price reasonable?
thanks,

After trying everything (seemingly) under the sun, I got a new needle/jet from Fast Fred. Am thrilled at the results, and am no longer fouling plugs. As it seems to go with these old bikes, for every problem solved, a new one pops up. Now there is a delay in my RPMs returning to idle, which makes shifting , especially between 1st and 2nd, a challenge. Maybe a leaky carb gasket? TOO lean? or did I just "move" my problem?

RETURN TO NORMAL

Post by FAST FRED » Mon Apr 20, 2009 5:24 pm

MANY OF THE PEOPLE INSTALLING MY NEEDLE JETS REPORTED THE SAME BASIC PROBLEM AFTER INSTALLIG THE JETS AND NEEDLES THEIR BIKES EXIBIT A LEANNESS SOMEWHERE ELSE OTHER THAN THE LOW END. MOST OFTEN IT HAS TO DO WITH ONE OF THE EARLIER ATTEMPS TO CURE THE PROBLEM BY LEANING OUT SOME OTHER JET, LOWERING THE NEEDLE, INSTALLING HOTTER PLUGS, VODOO OR WHO KNOWNS WHAT. AFTER RETURNING ALL JETS TO RECOMENDED SIZES, RAISING THE JET NEEDLE TO ITS NORMAL (RICHER) POSITION, REPLACEING SPARK PLUGS WITH PROPER (STANDARD) HEAT RANGE AND UNDO ANY MAJIC VOODO TUNING YOU MAY HAVE APPLIED TO THE PROBLEM (BASIC RETUNE) AND "WALA" HAPPY HAPPY HONDA TWIN OWNERS ALL.
