how to install cb77 petcock

Post by eyhonda » Mon Apr 19, 2010 1:02 pm

Is there a trick to installing the petcock so that it is facing straight? As you know, the nut is a two thread type. It seems that it needs to be threaded on the tank and the petcock at the same time. But it always tightens crooked. I need help.

No big trick that I know of...get both threads started at more or less the same time, one of them is reverse thread so it'll pull the two pieces together as you tighten the nut while holding the petcock where you want it. Might take a couple of tries. There is (or should be) a rubber washer up inside the nut that makes the actual seal. Don't have to tighten nut all that tight. Hope this helps...Lee

Ok, that must be it. I'm missing the washer. The parts guide doesn't show one and I can't remember if there was one when I disassembled it. Thanks!

retrobikes includes the flat washer you need with their rebuild kit...there's a groove up inside the nut it fits into...some folks may have been able to make a proper sized o-ring work.

Wow, that was fast! In the meantime, I found the part number online at Carlscycle.com (17613-242-020). I hope it's the updated part number. Judging from the '020" at the end, it might be the 2nd version or something like that. I have the other pieces already. So I can just order it from Nick at Ohio Cycle. Thanks, again Lee!
