Stuck Carb Float Pin

Post by kyle91987 » Mon Jun 07, 2010 9:56 pm

Sorry for posting a new thread, but after hours of searching I can't seem to find anything relevant. Are there any tricks to getting out a stuck float pin? Does it only come out from one direction?

I'm at wits end and figured a picture would help illustrate my situation better. Thanks.

float pin

I just removed two stuck pins today. I took a pair of pliars put on jaw on the post and the other on the end of the pin and gently squeezed, I soaked the pin in WD-40 first, then you can drive the pin out using a brass nail as a drive drift. hope it works for you.

You may want to support the tower before hitting on the pin. I have had these break off, and then the carb is junk.

hey, not sure if this will be helpful, this happens a lot on the suzukis i work on....

there are also some threads on fixing broken posts, one of the better ones involves some brass tubing and a little careful drilling....maybe no need to throw those old carbs in the garbage

Thanks for all the suggestion, guys. I managed to get it out before causing any serious damage. Here's a a rough scenario of what I did:

1. Cleaned all major gunk off with warm soapy water and a toothbrush.
2. Soaked the pin in WD-40 overnight.
3. Set the carburetor in a vice,
4. Supported the tower with a pair of pliers.
5. Took a small nail and managed to hammer the pin out far enough to use pliers and pulled in a twisting motion.

I hope this helps anyone out in the future.
