K&N Air Filter (sorry for wasting your time)

Post by pknopp » Sat Apr 09, 2011 5:28 pm

I figured I'd post this even though the info I can give on it is very limited. I bought my bike with the aif filter detached. It was all there but not connected. The filter was pretty crusty and the previous owner had taken it off. (though he had only rode it about 50 miles afterwards).

A few years ago I bought a bunch of stuff at auction from a closed motorcycle shop. One item I still had was this loose K&N filter. I figured I'd find a use for it one day. Anyway, you can see that the carb tube fits in the air filter end perfectly. Real snug. I had to bend it to get it to fit into the frame but there is still plenty of air flow. I took it out and it ran great this way.

I'm wasting your time as I have no idea what this originally fit. Sorry. LOL It may appear pinched off but it' not.

That's probably the best application of a K&N filter I've ever seen.

You should send that pic to K&N. I'm sure they'll come up with a positive spin on how you can do this to their filter and it will still work and flow more air than a stock filter.

regards,
Rob

I just took the bike for an extended ride. (more than a few miles around town). It's performing good. I know from past applications that a K&N works great so I'm not too concerned there. It would likely work fine even if it was pinched off at the bend.

I would still never do it if you could actually see it.

The bad thing about performance filters is along with increased air flow you get more dirt. But you can't beat the array of choices and sizes. Its alot better than no filter at all. I'm considering a set for my CB160 as a NOS set just sold on ebay for over 250. A tad rich for my blood.
