Fuel Res/On/Stop CL77

Post by sibes67 » Wed Nov 14, 2012 7:03 pm

Got the CL77 tank fairly well cleaned out of some rust & gunk, and petcock repair kit installed. Check all the openings for fuel to flow from tank, into petcock, and out. Here is a weird situation though - - - tank on bench filled to full with hot water, stop position = no liquid flow out of fuel outlet. On position = nice flow from each fuel outlet. Reserve position = flow from only one fuel outlet. Switch to stop position, then back to reserve position, and flow comes from only one fuel outlet, but it is the OTHER one than before. If I repeat this, the fuel outlet keeps switching from the inside one, to the outside one (only one flowing). This back/forth only occurs on reserve. Obviously I need fuel to flow from both outlets, what may I have done wrong? That rubber packing (new) seemingly only installs one way! Must be something really stooopid going on here. Thanks, Ron.

It's fine - petcocks are funny like that. Try partially blocking the one that's flowing with your finger and you'll get plenty of flow out of both.

I can see the flow going by one port creating a little vacuum of sorts and keeping the port from flowing even though it is free. Once the flow stops, as it does when the float vavle closes, the other probably starts to flow. Once are both in equilibrium, they probably flow fine.

Never noticed this on my CL77. But then again, I'm not sure I've opened the petcock with both fuel lines off, either.

regards,
Rob

Did the finger on one fuel outlet , then the other, and voila!! both outlets under the fuel tank had a nice steady flow. Little things matter...thanks guys.
