Rubber-tipped float valve? OOPS! My fault!

Does anybody make a replacement needle valve with the rubber tip?

My Dream is fine when I first install the needle/seat but after riding, it overflows (very slowly) if I let it sit with the fuel on.

(The vents in the tank cap are clear.)

I guess you mean through the overflow tube/hose. First you should always turn off the fuel when not riding. Many aftermarket kits come with the rubber tip float valves just look at the pictures or ask first. Also check the condition of the overflow tube inside the bowl. They can crack or become loose and cause leaks. I feel sure you have checked float level and condition.

I suppose one should shut off the petcock after riding but all my other bikes "hold their bladder" just fine without shutting off the fuel.

Yes, everything else has been checked but I will check again.

You could try lapping the float valve and seat together to get a better seal. Some people use metal polish on a cotton bud to clean the valve seat.

I forgot that I had made a new gasket for the filler cap. I cut it too wide and it was covering the vent hole.

I trimmed the width of the gasket to clear the vent hole and no more leaking after shutdown.
