Jet Question CA77

Post by catterar » Thu Nov 17, 2016 10:34 pm

I bought these jets from a vendor on ebay. Are these jets any good to use?
I bought them because my plugs fouled after just 500 miles. The engine ran fine up until the point when the plugs fouled.
I'm trying to get it to run longer than that on a set of plugs.
Before I put the bike on the road in July I cleaned the carburetor, set the float level, replaced the gaskets and O rings. The air screw was adjusted as follows:
Turn it in all the way till it seats (gently) and back it out 1 1/2 turns.
It controls the amount of air in the idle circuit, so the more you turn it out, the leaner it gets.
You can tweak it from there with the engine warmed up, choke off, by turning in or out 1/4 turn at a time and listen for engine to speed up.
When you find the position that gives max RPM, reverse your last move 1/4 turn.
I have also replaced the points, point plate and condenser, set the timing and adjusted the valves.
Is there anything else I should be doing?

You might want to remove the float assembly and make sure neither one of the floats have accumulated any gasoline inside. There should not be anything sloshing around in either one. I had a similar problem with the left cylinder on a CB77. Finally found one of the left carb's floats that had a fair amount of gas in it, allowing more gas into the carb than it should, due to the reduced buoyancy. Changed it out for a new assembly, and all has been fine since. The unhappy piece has a place of honor on my bench to remind me of the importance of checking everything. After five years, there's still gas in the one float.... Regards, Chase

Thank you Loud Mouse and Chase,
I'll check with the vendor and see if I can return the jets. I'll also pull the float to see if it has leaked.
