I was on the highway and felt that lack of power from running out of fuel. I switched over to reserve, but the engine died anyway and I coasted to the side of the road. I looked in the tank and she was empty.
So, my question is what do I need to do to my petcock to get it to work? Maybe the main tube is too short or has a crack or something?

I stayed away so long cause I was off in a corner balling! so, I still have no reserve. I inspected the brass tube that comes up out of the petcock and found no cracks. I blew on down the tube with the petcock closed and it was tight. I just don't understand.
Just to clarify, OFF is BACK, ON is DOWN, and RESERVE is FORWARD, right?

That is correct. Somethings surely wrong somewhere. If it in fact empties the tank in the on position, somethings out of place. I'd take that valve back apart.

I'm away from my 305 for this month or so, therefore I've no access to my parts cache; so this is just a thought: it may be that the brass tube is inserted into the wrong (reserve) orifice, thus allowing the entire content to flow from the tank in the ON position.

I can't remember if the petcock orifices are identical in size; but if they are then it's entirely possible that you inadvertently inserted the tube into the wrong orifice(?).

I expect you would have no reserve after two weeks of being off in a corner balling...or did you mean "bawling"? ;)
