slides down high revs

Turn both to the bottom and go back to the FAQ and adjust from that.
If the slide is only a little to high the engine will do as yous does. .......lm

If I adjust the nuts at the top of the carb and the resulting level of the slides are different, is this something that I can fix with the slide screw? Adjust one side to compensate for the other?

Is there anything at the throttle grip I can do as well? The small adjusting nut there?

Also,
Your pics show that you have one brass slide, and one hard anodized aluminum slide. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work that way.
