i did look at it obviously. its smoking behind the rotor and a decent amount. idk what to tell you to describe the situation further. i am not educated enough to diagnose this. what exactly do i need to let you know so we can be on the same page?

Chances are you and I will not be on the same page.
Ya have there a MC engine with a problem.
Now ya say behind the rotor.
Give yourself time to figure ya may actually need to get in there and look.
Ya have the problem there so get in to it.
Last I checked most of us take the best advise offered.
Look at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. ...lm

Let's back up a couple of steps. You mentioned smoke from the stator or rotor. Where is the smoke actually coming from? It may be hard to see, but is it coming from behind the rotor or is the stator overheating and smoking?

The difficult part of long distance diagnosis is that we see different things. I look and see one thing, but if you don't know what you are looking at, it's sometimes difficult to know what you are looking at. In this case, there should be no smoke from the alternator, so we need to know where it is coming from.

Is it really from behind the rotor where the starter clutch sits or from the seal or is it drifting up from a leaky muffler.

it is coming from the rotor. (with the "f" "L" marks ) it appears to be coming form behind it. perhaps i can post a video for you guys to see. i was setting my points and this started to happen afterward
