Air filter hose
Re: Air filter hose
I've used alot of different kinds of air filters on twin carb 305 engines including K&N, Uni and stock and the engines seemed to perform better with the filters attached to velocity stacks or stock air tubes.Kigsby wrote:I have a 1962 Dream 305 and I just bought a new rubber air filter hose because the one I had was cracked and split. The new one doesn't fit. It's too short by about a half inch. I don't know if they sent the wrong part - or did the '62's use one from a different model? I'm going to return it, but I'm not sure what to order. I saw this on ebay. Anyone use one of these filters that attach directly to the carb?
I think the air charge gets shaped better with a "tunnel" leading into the carb's venturi.
Never used the cone filters you pictured and they're probably fine on a stocker engine turning low RPMs but I'd try to get an air tube on it if I could.
When I get to that point on a street tracker I'm building from parts, I'm going to try Unis on radiator hoses with molded bends.
I measured them side by side and just by looking at them I could tell it was shorter. I got the tape measure out and the new one measured 8 1/2 inches and the old one measured 9 1/4. See the pic attached. It's mounted correctly on the carb and the filter. The long pin is going straight through the center of the filter, so I can't move it much to reach the tube.48lesco wrote:That's a reproduction that I have no experience with. He usually sells pretty good stuff though. I would check that the air filter and carb is mounted properly, etc. How did you determine that it was too short? Can you compare it to the original one?
