Yes Rob, that's one of the reason's I took the carb off. I wanted to clean it but I also wanted to get a better look at it, as you suggested. I'm trying the best I can to check parts manuals, service manuals and figure things out but I'm new at this and can't spot things as easily as you experts! But at least I know when something just doesn't look right. Then I come to you all! I saw a Dream carb for sale on ebay and other than the fuel line intake, it looks just like the one on my bike. I have some pics (at home) that I'll post tonight to get a positive ID of just what I have and if I can use it or if I should buy a different carb.

Indeed....I believe you did!!

The next question is "which other carb is it?" ...PW22 or PW26

If it is a 22, maybe it's off a 250, and it was substituted for a broken Dream carb?
If it is a 26, maybe the PO was trying to upgrade the performance with a bigger carb?

Kigsby, look on the side of the carb body and either PW22 or PW26 should be stamped.

Thanks Brewsky. I will check tonight when I get home. Should I get a Dream carb and just sell whatever this one is since it seems like either one you mentioned is not the correct one? There's a CA77 carb for sale on ebay for $130.

The easiest would be to get a dream carb and go with the stock jetting and settings.

However, either a PW22 or PW26 from another model should be able to be adjusted to work with trial and error jetting, but would probably take some tinkering.

How is the bike runing now?

The carb you reference on ebay is probably the correct round bowl model for your year (I'm not sure of the changeover year or vin, but I think it is in the 63 year range).

You may be able to wait and find one for less if you are not in a hurry, or, as you mentioned, you could sell yours to offset the cost.

Ya know brew that carb inlet wasn't used on a True DREAM engine carb issued by HONDA.
Knowing that they have a big job just trying to get it ta work close to correct. ......lm

I'm not familier with the differences in CB/CL carbs as I haven't worked on any.

Silver mentions a possible upgrade to 26mm for dreams, but doesn't go into any more details.

I guess its possible it is a 22mm, from a 250, which might be an easier mate, but not sure of their differences either.

I'm not even sure if the mounting studs are the same c-c measurements, but they are obviously mounted on the bike.

Also wonder if PO may have changed cam to CL/CB in a performance upgrade attempt?

I agree that sorting a non-standard carb is a chore even if the surfaces mate properly, especially given the hard to find JIS jet choices.

Thanks for pointing out the differences.

All part of the learning process, bud. Maybe somebody here with a correct carb can give you a measurement from the forward flange to the end of the intake snout on the carb. That's a simple check that will answer the air tube question.

Rob
