Carb Settings-More Help

Post by kylechanh » Mon Mar 31, 2008 12:30 am

Hi everyone! Proud new owner of a '64 CB77. I just dipped and clean the entire carbs. I put all the jets as they were when I bought the her. I noticed that the right carb had a jet with a 42 and the left with a 35. The clips were set to the bottom ring of the needles, but I re-positioned to the middle ring. Is all this correct?
Also, I can't get her to idle at below 4000rpm. I tried to make adjustments to the throttle stop screws (the one on the right w/ the thumb screw) and the air screws, but can't seem to get it right. Does any one know the correct settings? Thanks.

Kyle-There is a good tune-up procedure in the FAQ'S section for the CB/CL engines. Also, you may want to go thru some of the old posts about carb. tune-up if you have not done so.This has been a big help to me in the past.Seems alot of folks on here tell other CB owners to make sure the slides in the carbs are in properly.Seems that is a common problem and they are installed backward.Good luck.

Main jets should be 135, pilots 42, both of them! You may need to put some slack in the throttle cables. There are adjuster nuts on top of carbs, mainly used to sync carbs, and an adjustment barrel on the cable by the throttle housing. Also check to make sure slides aren't sticking in carb bodies. Do this by removing air tubes and looking in to carbs. Read EMOS tuning tips in FAQ section.

I'm kind of new to carb repair. You guys talk about the "slide screw." Is this the throttle stop screw? The one that looks like a thumb screw?

Also, in my Clymer book (attached pic), the slow jet indicates a #35 and a #42. Is it supposed to be different. What does the asteric signify?

I'm guessing that the previous owner did not know what the (*) signified and replaced the slow jets. I thought it was weird. I guess I'll be looking for a carb kit. I'll post my progress. Thanks to all for your help. I'm sure that I will have other questions.
