ca77 carb removal

Post by KentuckyDream » Fri Jun 13, 2008 6:53 pm

New to this bike, and bikes in general. I'm trying to clean up my carb, and I have a question. Does the entire carb need to come off to clean it, or can I just undo the metal strap thing on the bottom and clean the jets that way?

If you want to do the job right and only one time pull the carb off and take all the jets out and idle and air screws, main needle and soak carb and all the parts you took off in a can of carb. soak for as long as you can.Thats how I did three carbs I have for my CA77.Come out looking new.Make sure all the passages are clear afterward. My 2 cents for what it's worth.Joe

Yep, decided to take the whole darn thing off and do it right. One of the nuts holding it on, however would not budge. I let it soak in Liquid Wrench for a few minutes, and got it loose. However, when the wrench came down, I smashed the top of the carb. Luckily, I also have an extra carb. As I was cleaning it, I went to pull out one of the jets- slow i think- and it was so stuck it would not come out. Again, soaked in Liquid Wrench. Went to get it out, and the head has completely deformed to the point that I cannot get it out at all now. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

I never ran into that, but the only thing I could think of is an easy out after drilling it out big enough to accept one.?????????Good luck

When it's a stuck bolt (or jet!) with some meat on it, I use my Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel to trim off flat edges on two sides of the bolt head to get a vice grips onto.

As a last resort, you can also put a new slot for a slotted screwdriver in the head of the bolt with the same Dremel cutoff wheel. I say that as a last resort, since the wheel isn't very thin and you'll need a pretty big slotted screwdriver bit to get a bite...

As the slow jet is IN A HOLE I doubt you have a tool with which you can cut a new slot. I have lots of tools but none which can slot anything in the hole the slow jets are installed. .............lm

Ooh, missed the "slow" part... but I did qualify my fix with "if it has meat" which is a very technical designation.
