Well guys, I finally got around to setting up and fitting my Rolex-priced carbs that I won on ebay some months back. My own fault -- the price, I mean -- as I really wanted them!
I followed Ed's recipe to the letter; made a 22.5mm gauge from some lightweight card, set the floats (piece of p155) and the mixture screws to 1⅛-turns out, fitted the puppies and sync'd the choke slides. Followed the 'thumb & forefinger' instructions, as per, to sync the slides to the cables, popped on the fuel hoses & turned on the tap; you can smell the petrol, when the bowls have filled, via the little breathers (no drain tubes here!). The moment of truth: tweaked the idle screws 1½-turns in, turned the key on, ¾-choke & kicked it in the guts on the button. The bloody starter couldn't have turned any more than one revolution -- 2000rpm! Waited about 20 secs, knocked the choke fully open & allowed the idle to rise to 3500 over about 3-4mins, then tickled the idle screws back, ⅛-turn-each-at-a-time, to obtain circa 1000rpm. Another 3-4mins then tickled a bit more to get a steady 600-800rpm. Sweet as!
