I personally wouldnt use it. If its a CB I believe there is an o-ring that is supposed to seal this where the petcock threads onto the tank. I would fear that a piece of tape might come loose and get somewhere that might cause troubles. I would try loctite and let it cure before putting gas to it . Do you have an o-ring in the threaded nut between the petcock and the tank?

Goody, I was thinking it would be a backup to the o-ring because I've had trouble with leaks. Thanks for the input.

Teflon tape is a lubricant, not a sealant. I am not sure how it will react to gasoline.

Try truing up your o- ring surfaces on the tank and the petcock w/ a flat piece of steel and some fine emery cloth. I would say you should be able to get by w/ no sealant in this area .

petcock sealing washer

Post by jleewebb » Wed Oct 07, 2009 8:31 am

I don't think teflon tape's gonna help. What came with my petcock rebuild kit was more of a flat washer than an o-ring, though I believe some folks have made a proper sized o-ring work.

Ditto goodysnap's suggestion of truing up mating surfaces on petcock and tank.

Hope this helps, Lee
