Hoses

Post by toastyhamster » Fri Dec 11, 2009 7:45 am

OK, came to re-do my hoses today. One from each carb to the fuel tap - easy. Read up on here for the carb drains - easy. Come to look at the petrol tank diagram in the manual - baffled - it has a reserve fuel hose (part 17 - 95001-50168) in the diagram - what's that for?

Also - what's the connector on the bottom right hand side of the fuel tank for and where does it go? Mine appears to be blocked as I can't suck or blow through it - some kind of extra breather?

I also don't have any "block breathers" as discussed in some threads on here so am I right in thinking I should block the stubs on the air filters?

Does the pipe from the cylinder head breather exit by the front sprocket?

Thanks

Part # 17 on the diagram goes from the right side outlet on the tank to the inlet nipple on the right side of the petcock. On my tank, that outlet was blocked with rust so I had to use a wire and then small wire brushes to allow fuel to flow through it.

The tube from the cylinder head breather goes down under the engine top cover and out through the hole directly under where the alternator wiring feeds through the case.

Wilf is right on about the right side tank outlet, I have found that a drill twist bit, of the proper size, is handy for clearing plugged passages.

Thanks guys, the fuel tap I was looking at was broken and it wasn't obvious there was an inlet for reserve, my "good" one has 3 hose connections.

Is there anyway of refitting the hose connectors after they've been pulled out of the tap? As far as I can tell that's all thats wrong with my duff tap.

I think the inlet nipples are a "press fit".

Bloody tight press fit. The tap I was trying to recon was too gunked up, so I had to move the nipples to my other tap - not easy!

The cylinder head breather tube - I've got some tube but it's too thick to fit between the engine cover and the cylinders without pinching and it definitely won't go through the hole by the alternator, that's pretty tight just with the alternator and starter wiring. I'll probably route it via the frame tube down to the rear of the front sprocket.

toasty...

On my CB77 the starter cable and the alternator wiring go through a grommet in the uppermost hole. That leaves the lower hole free to take the breather tube.
