Revs Up when I turn left

Post by Onemilewest » Sun Jan 31, 2010 9:20 pm

I am almost embarrassed to ask this one, but I have re-ran the throttle cable twice. I have a 305 Dream. 1965. When I turn left the motor revs up. Any hints?

You may have a cable that is to short or not routed right. After I put my Superhawk back together, I had a similar problem when I turned hard right, the clutch would disengage. The cable was pulling tight when the handlebars were turned all the way and this was enough to disengage the clutch. The same thing could happen with the throttle.

Cable

Onemile, I have to agree with Gunnar, the only time I have ever experienced your problem was due to routing of the cable or wrong cable length. Does your cable run inside the handlebars?...........D

Yes. I now have it coming out the left side, through the wiring harness tab, into the first hole in the frame. Through the inside of the frame all the way to the carb. I put short bars on so I know my cable is about 4" too long, but it revs up when I turn into the cable?

Try backing-off the cable adjuster(s) a turn or so. Or adjust the cable, with the steering hard-over, so that there's a smidgen of play in the throttle before it starts to lift the carb slide.

Just a thought....

Another thing you can try is to move the levers in about a quarter inch. I did this for my clutch lever and it did the trick.
