Installing rubber knee grips

Post by gopher » Thu Feb 11, 2010 10:51 pm

What's the best way to install the rubber knee grips on my CL77 tank? Where do you start? How do you stretch the rubber to get it over the mount? It just seems the grips are too small to fit!

Try warming them with a hair dryer.

I recently bought a steering wheel cover for my truck and it absolutley would not go on until I heated it really well.

Knee grips

Gopher, I submerged mine in warm, slightly soapy water. I did it with the tank on the bike(I tried with it off, no go), starting from the top down. Mine went on fairly easy and look great...........................D

rubber knee grips

Hey guys,
Did your grips have yet a gap at the top that no matter what you did, the gap remained? I stretched those things every which way and still the gap.

Mike you may need to bend the mounting flange in a bit. The tend to bend outwars when removing the old rock hard grips.

I used the hair dryer to heat the grip and it worked perfectly. Starting from the top also made installation easier. I had a gap at the top when I was finished. I heated the grip up again with the hair dryer and I was easily able to settle the grip into it's proper position.
