I have a minor problem with my 63 CB77.
The carb setup is
Needle = k 24231 both sides
Main jet = 142 both sides
idle jet = 42 both sides
RHS slide = 124/k20
LHS slide = 125/k20 (note different #)
The float height is set per LM (thank you Ed)
I am using the "Dunstall" mufflers from JC Whitney.
The RHS is running a little leaner than the left at 1/2 throttle, per the spark plug color, and I set both needle clips to its lowest make the RHS correct.
Why is the RHS leaner than the RHS, is the different # on the carb slide a clue?
Does it seem strange that I need to set the needle to its richest position with the "Dunstall" mufflers, which seem to be pretty free flowing? I would not want anything louder, for sure!
Thanks,
Larry
Who can translate slide #s?
That's easy.
Slide number 124/125 tells you if it's left or right pin and right or left adjuster screw.
K is for Keihin
2.0 is 2.0mm cutaway. Those are correct for a stock bike.
Check your needles for size - one may be worn. They are the right needles for a CB. Cl needles are slightly richer at the top end.
Check both needle jets for size - they are probably worn oval and if so they are replaced as sets (needle plus jet). I can't tell you if they are still available though.
Those main jets are a couple of sizes up from stock but should be in the ball park. How close is the carburation WFO on the main jet? Start there. It's possible that your motor needs even larger mains.
Slide cutaway really works only as you crack the throttle open up to say 1/4.
With free flowing exhausts the carbs usually have to be set up richer than stock but richest setting on the needles sounds too rich.

Teazer,
thanks for the reassuring information. I took a full throttle this am, as you suggested. They are both pretty lean looking. The fact I am getting over 60 mpg on fairly hard riding also indicates lean. I guess I'll need to check the main and needle jets next chance, and go up a size on mains if there is no obvious blockage.
Thanks,
Larry
