Can't Idle

Post by elliottw » Tue Aug 10, 2010 4:14 pm

Hello All
Im new to the forum and I just got a CB77 from a friend and my dad and I got it running today but I cant get the idle figured out. The idle always slows down until it dies. I read the optimum tuning thing in the FAQ and I dont quite understand which screws are which on the carb. Could someone elaborate? And should both carbs be tuned the same? Thanks to anyone who can help

When ya have the carbs and points adjusted so the engine runs at optimum it isn't necessary to have all parts adjusted The Same as ya actually sort of have 2 engines.
Each carb has 2 adjustment screws.
The one in the angular pocket is the Air Screw and to start with ya want it 1 1/4 turn out from bottom.
The other is 90 degrees to the carb body and lifts/lowers the Slide.
Now Do All of the Adjustments not just the ones ya think are needed and ya will have the engine running well. .............lm

fuel supply

Are you sure that you are getting enoug fuel to the carbs? Check fuel flow from the petcock, or clean it out if you havent yet. Try installing a clear tube to the float bowl drain and hold the tube up (do not let it move after opening the drain) open the drain a bit, and run it to see if the float bowl is maintaining consistant fuel level.

Good idea but I would expect that after 3 months this has been taken care of. .........lm
