Carb Intake Screen

Were these ever factory installed?......... I don't see them shown on the parts catalogs or fiche, but have seen several carbs for sale with them.

Yes, most of the early Z50s and CT70s have them. Basically a backfire screen so your air filter doesnt catch fire. Methinks they would only be used when an oiled foam filter is stock.

Hi,

If this is a dream carb, yes standard, and thanks Dave, for pointing out the reason, I never thought about that. The CB72 / 77 carburetors didn't have the filter screen (as far as my knowledge reaches).

I did, however, removed it, on the dyno it was clearly visible that the filter is holding the bike back.

The attached pic is from an ebay listing which says its a dream carb.

It does look different then mine however, as it has a fuel inlet nipple.

I have seen several different listings over time that do show the screens attached to dream carbs.

Wonder why it doesn't show on the parts diagrams?

Not that I want one, as it looks like it would severely restrict air flow as Jensen said.

I also have two spare carbs from my CB77 with these 'filters' or whatever they are. Im not gonna use them. I thought they were aftermarket 'race' filters or something like that. Doesn't look stock at all.
